This may not apply to your situation but...

As others have said, cleaning sometimes is enough, but careful re-alignment of wiper and carbon track may be needed to fix a old worn AFM. You can see the wear track on the carbon, and the areas of no wear. I found it better to move the circuit board that the track is on, rather than bend the wiper, to allow it to sweep a fresh arc.

the screws that hold the board to the AFM body may be "loct-tited" in place. Get a good fitting screwdriver and give the screws a couple of sharp raps via hammer and driver before attempting loosening.

When you have the board unfastened, you can elongate the holes to allow some adjustment room. Use loc-tite again when assembling.

(Is the bucking you are experiencing happening during sustained driving?)
