Volks, Wrist pin - Failed Actually the very first engine disaster I had with the 2.2L EuroCars engine was a wrist pin failure. The pin clips came off ne piston at around 1200 miles after the first build. Note ...because of the higher compression on the engine each was actually "double pinned". Kind of sounded like piston slap to all that diagnosed it. I was able to limp the engine all the way from Doughlas, AZ to Denver. Although as expected ... there was a fair amt of damage by the time I got there.
