John, hit the head with a rubber hammer as hard as you can, each sides...sleeve will come off. http://www.benplace.com/bjp_head1/100_0042.jpg Now, with a piston a TDC, this is how far a cyllinder can come out: http://www.benplace.com/bjp_head1/100_0054.jpg or http://www.benplace.com/bjp_head1/100_0058.jpg The lower lips of the sleeve can come out of the water jacket, about 1/4in out, NO MORE, and remember AT TDC: Piston at the top (near head) of it's stoke... Because, if you get thos rings out... not easy at all to put them back under the van.. More info here on the head: http://www.benplace.com/vanagon_engine1.htm Cheers and good luck..... Ben |
