I'll take a stab at that one. When Ed started out with this venture back around '68 he worked an arrangement with VWofA to get the Adventure Camper, as they were called then, through the dealer network. But within 4 years the quality (lack of) that comes with high volume didn't sit well with him so he sold out and moved to Fort Bragg. About 1974 he started making Adventurewagens using the same basic top design as you Vanagon owners are so familiar with. These second generation campers are made of higher quality materials and made to higher standards but with the same common sense approach to what's really important and functional. But as much as I admire the late conversions I don't know that I'll ever lose the attachment I've got for our '71 named Ted. There are a number of examples of both generations as well as dealer literature for both on the Adventurewagen Yahoo group.
