Some vanagons came with a square plastic fuel filter between the tank and the pump. Others came with a round metal fuel filter between the pump and the engine, and some even came with both.

Just get one of the square plastic filters and place it between the tank and the pump. If you end up with 2 filters ... you'll be protected coming and going.

The part number is 133133511 at Bus Depot and at Vanagain.
