FANTASTIC!! that is exactly it! looking at his pics it is exactly what I was looking at doing. He has split it and reattached it together and then resurfaced it. And then attached to the van. I was wondering about a sealant and adhesive to the van and noted that he used black stuff on the front and body caulk on the sides. Will do the same as that would be the perfect way to do it. From effectiveness and cost. The metal trim he used for the attachment for screw surface is easily available as well.

Next time I am in the salvage yard I will be taking a closer look at tops again.

One advantage I have is, is a spare vanagon in the back yard to use for the shaping and fitting. It also is a sunroof which will be handy for the prototyping.
