ok, so what if one of these AW owners, who has spent $$$$ on their AW..has a
nice AW syncro..with all kinds of goodies..... and their SO (not them, of
course!) drives it into a parking garage and mashes the top..or a tree falls on
the roof.. you have to look at it as a possible replacement option for
those who already have an AW..
a few years ago my buddy got a '80 ASI / Riviera Camper (straight up poptop
camper built in WA state) really cheap, because the top was destroyed..the PO
drove it into his garage with the top up..sheared it right off.. and where
the heck was he going to find another?? so this mint condition '80 ASI Camper
sat in this guy's garage for years, with a busted top..he couldnt even drive
it.. my friend got it cheap..
ive even sold westy poptops and luggage racks to people who damaged theirs..
i sold a poptop to a kid a few yrs ago who was doing some stealth camping in
his '86 westy in the upper level of a parking garage one night.. a security
guard came and woke him up in the middle of the night and told him he had to
get out of there ASAP. in his shaken, groggy stupor, he started his westy up
and drove about 25 feet, and CRASH.. forgot he had the top popped.. the poptop
hit an overhead concrete beam, it lifted the westy's front wheels off the
ground..and sheared the top, canvas, hinges, everything...trashed.. he had to
continue his trip with the broken westy's top bunjeed and strapped to the roof.
sh*t happens..
it makes sense to have a replacement option available.
junked westys can be found with tops.. try to find an AW in a junkyard..
ha.. right.
