I just changed my oil today. Put on the ol' Mahle filter and dumped in 3-1/2 quarts of Mobil One 15W50. In doing the job, it occured to me there have been a ot of newbies that have come onto the Vanagon List so I thought a bit of instruction might be in order about the oil filler tube. This thing always surprises people. Attention Newbies (and oldies for that matter): The oil filler tube is a telescoping tube that can be pulled out and extended to provide ease of access for adding oil. If you have not discovered it, grasp the edge of the filler tube with you thumb and forefinger and simply pull straight out. The tube will telescope out and extend beyond the access hatch opening. Makes life so simple. Lots of folks don't realize this feature is there. I didn't for the longest kind of time. If you haven't done it, try it. Regards, John Rodgers 88 GL Driver |
