Paul, The transmission in my 87 died while getting off the FL turnpike in Jupiter FL, and I had to have it replaced. We dealt with All European Auto Repair in Jupiter. Helpful, but very pricey (they primarily do Porsche, M-B., BMW, etc). They were recommended by a VW Westy owner who happened by the road where we were broken down...All European worked on his Westy. We got a transmission from Adams VW in West Palm. Extremely helpful and knowledgeable on VWs...they had every kind of VW on site...if I had it to do again, I'd would have Adams do the work as well.
