While I don't have the cool "optional cable stays", I do something similar as Ben. I have two sets of about 14" of chain and two "S" hooks from Home Depot that I use to hold the tailgate horizontal for longer loads. See what I mean at:

When I carry 12' sheets of drywall, I place 12' 2x4's on the bed under the drywall to support the parts that canteliever beyond the tailgate.

As for loading long cargo such as lumber, I simply put the tailgate down. My Doka has the optional cable stays which allows the tailgate to remain in the position horizontal to the bed. -- BenT
