Ron The tire inflation sticker on my 83.5 wbx full westy (cdn) states front 33 psi, rear 40 psi. It specs a 185R14C 6PR tire on a 5.5 X 14 rim. On what do you base "but at 36 psi you will be underinflating your tires based on VW spec."? I'm running WOOSUNG SV820 tires (185R14 8PR 106/104R LT) at the sticker recommended pressures and have experienced no ill effects and a reasonable ride quality. (I say reasonable as it is a 23 year old truck.)

I don't mean to sound ornery here (limitations of email vs eye to eye conversation). I've only had a vanagon for two years so am still learning as I go.

Thanks for your insight Don
