I should have been more specific. It depends on the year/model, but at least in the rear, 36 psi would be underinflated on all Vanagons. Underinflating a tire will reduce the load bearing capacity of the sidewall, and cause it to heat up and flex more -a particularly serious issue on a Vanagon, which requires an unusually stiff sidewall. This can adversely affect handling, particularly in emergency situations. It also can result in premature tire wear. See http://urlcut.com/1aqnp for more info on this.
