I know I don't have an MBA, but did anyone expect people to buy a $100,000.00 Volkswagen? How about a $20,000 engine option for the Toureg? The V-10 TDI Toureg typifies VW's 1990's thinking that people will buy anything--presumably with a margin loan. I think if VW offered the Toureg with a 2.5TDI--either a hopped up five or a V6--people would have lined up around the block for a nearly 30mpg SUV for $35k. The Phaeton? Defies any logic.

My dad has a 2002 Passat and had the coil problem but that's it in three years. VW even paid to tow it to the dealer. The car has the 1.8t, 5 speed and is a delight to drive. It gets nearly 31 mpg at 85 mph and doesn't even notice long grades.
