Strange but that V10 option when first offered was only something like 500 engines available. They were gone the first day with most on the east coast time zone with a few in central time zone. West coast and mountain didn¹t get any out of the first batch offered. VW offered them as excess to their european needs. After that they became a regular option. The trick is that the V10 is so big and heavy that it gets a new front end to hold it up. Also a beefed up transmission. The toureg was available with a smaller diesel but there are states that have made it almost impossible to send new diesels to them. In europe there is the R5 and the V6 diesel.
