Review of symptoms:

Drivers side door lock always is in down position. You
can lift the knob manually to open the door, but as
soon as you let go it retracts. Same behaviour
entering from outside with the key. This does not
occur at all on the passenger's side.

Well, looking at the wiring diagram I realized there
was a chance I did not need to find the T4 connectors,
if I could check continuity from one door clear to the
other.

So I did, plus a couple of other checks. My
conclusions:

Continuity between front doors on the red, white,
yellow and brown circuits. Looks good.

There is power (red) to the drivers door, so fuses etc
and good.

The brown wire at the drivers door has continuity to
the body, so there is a good ground.

Without checking through the rest of the circuits - to
the sliders and the rear hatch, seems to me that
wiring is intact.

My conclusion:  I need to replace the driver's side
accuator. Anyone have any other ideas?
