The aviation industry has long used brass exhaust nuts because the have more strength than copper, do not seize, and can stand the hight heat associatied with the exhaust. ports. They are "one time use only" nuts however.

The industry also has available special heat treated nuts for exhaust applications but they are not nearly as successful as brass nuts for ease of removal, and in spite of the fact they were designed as exhaust nuts they still seize on the exhaust studs and cause all kinds of grief.

Trying to remove a seized nut often results in the stud being broken off .

Have you ever tried drilling a broken exhaust stud out of an aircraft cylinder head and installing a new one, with the engine still in the airplane??? It's a bitch! Big time PITA!!
