Anybody with a newer fuel system will get an alarm if the cap doesnΉt fit right. I forget which codes, but I have learned that many mechanics go straight for the expensive diagnostics and replacements. The culprit is a pressurized fuel system that includes the tank. If the cap leaks the computer thinks you have a leak and will either flash codes or maybe even a hard code and send you into limp mode.

At the flaps you have to be sure to get the correct cap for those vehicles as both types will fit. Unfortunately the vehicles using that system use the same fuel caps as the rest of the cars.
