Subject: Power Window Motor and Brake Light Switch Fun
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCII

Leaky brake light switch.. dregged up the info from the archives, primed the switch with a bit of brake fluid, then did the quick swap.. so far so good, I was really speedy with it, so hoping that not too much air got in the lines.

Thanks to the archives for the great tip!?

On to the next task.. digging into the dead driver's side power window (fortunately stuck in the up position)

Click, click.. totally dead, dismantle the door panel, and notice that if I pull out the pioneer speaker (mounted in the bottom part of the door) I can get a wrench in there (10mm 1/4" socket on an extension)

Take the motor off, apply 12v it spins (but weakly) Clean off the coat of shellac/varnish and pull the two star drivin bolts (t-25?) and remove the top of the motor. Pull off the plastic face plate and the circlip to get to the motor's internals (windings, magnets/guts) spray some electric contact cleaner in there, use some compressed air to blow the funk out and reassemble.

Back together, plug in and the thing jumps around now with *much* more torque!

I re-install and its working again! cool, saved some $$$ and bought some time (for awhile) and learned something in the process.
