Subject: Head replacement 91 Westy, 115,000 miles
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Howdy listees, I have been reading the messages in the Archieves for some times and found the information posted by you folks extremely useful. Now it is about time for me to join the Vanagon list. We have this Multivan Westy for over two years now, having so much fun camping in the Texas state parks, along the Gulfcoast beaches, and the hill country. The camper now have 115,000 miles, I thought she has been doing wonderfully all these years. After the long trip to East Texas about a month ago and came back, I notice that the coolant level dropped, and coolant leaking from the upper part of the head. Then I found gas bubbling inside the extension tank when idling. All sound so familiar with the crack-head syndrome of a Vanagon. I guess, it is time for a head job. I have some experience working on this Van, but never actually open the head. I have the Bently manual, and also have a copy of Boston Bob,s article on cylinder head replacement. I think I am all ready to get on the job. I really wellcome any comments on what should and should not do about the cylinder head job from the fellow listees who has done this job before. Thanks folks
