The hole is too small to be of any real use. With a slider, the hole would be to small except for the smallest child. One inexpensive solution is to put a hole the size of a domestic (US) truck and install a slider made for that vehicle. It will be much cheaper and have wider availability. Electric sliders are even possible.

Another solution would be have a Safari (awning) window similar to the ones Wolfsburg International in Redding, California manufactures for the bay window buses. No cutting involved and gets you the largest opening possible w/o cutting up your truck.

As for loading long cargo such as lumber, I simply put the tailgate down. My Doka has the optional cable stays which allows the tailgate to remain in the position horizontal to the bed. This also is a safer method to carry such cargo. Having it in the window creates the possibility of a javelin tossing contest in the event of a accident. I'd rather have it leave a dent on the back of my cab rather than the back of my head or anybody else's.
