Hi Steve,

My parents took a US$ bank draft with them to cover the cost of the 67 westy they purchased on behalf of a third party this past October. They were assured by their bank that it would be "As good as Cash" to any US bank. That turned out to be quite untrue. The seller went to his bank and was told it would take 5 days to clear. My parents did not have 5 days to wait, and the seller had other buyers interested, so alternate arrangements were made.

The end result was that additional funds were wired via Western Union with a HUGE surcharge. As in... *enough to stay in Seattle for five days* huge. But since Dad had work to attend to in Toronto so they made the transaction using the WU cash. When they returned home their buyer got take another fiscal bath when they cashed in the money order due to the decline in the US$ while they were away. Luckily they came home with a bus that was well worth the trouble, and the purchaser was much pleased with his investment.

Dad was amazed at the attitude the banks and seller showed him, but when I told him about the number of scammer stories posted on thesamba.com he understood. He wrote a very fiery letter to the bank a few weeks after the debacle but to date he has recieved no response.

Moral of the Story: paypal, credit card or cash are what works in 2005.

Happy trails,

Greg Potts Toronto, Ontario, Canada
