I hadn't used the CD version of the Bentley Vanagon manual for a while and when I tried, it didn't work. A call to their support line revealed that it doesn't work anymore-- with current browsers. Security fixes to both IE and Netscape screwed them--maybe a sign that it wasn't a great software design to start.... It will work with Netscape 4 and old versions of IE. Anyway, the techie said that Bentley would exchange it for "the current version"--which is the paper version. Other Bentleys are coming on CD with their "eBahn" software, but he said that they didn't have access to the Vanagon manual source info from VW anymore, so could not put it out in the new format. There is a CD with PDFs of VW's microfiche, but he offered that it wasn't very good or useful. So if you have a Bentley Vanagon CD and you want to exchange it for the paper version, send it with a cover letter request to them. [Yesterday, the Bentley box arrived--it contained the giant 2-vol Eurovan manual! Heavier than a VC! The packing slip was correct and an exchange is underway.] Richard A Jones Boulder, Colorado |
