The stock wiring for the emergency brake light switch goes underneath the carpet. I found it relatively easy to run cables behind the dash and then under the carpet (especially on the drivers side) since the stock carpeting is (more or less) a solid homogeneous mass up to the front "firewall" across the front footwells and through the center aisle between the seats. Probably easier to lift the carpet from the drivers side (as it already lifts up partly so as to provide access to the windshield wiper fluid resevoir refill opening.
