The Sprinter cargo vans are assembled in S. Carolina.

The passenger vans are shipped over complete, but cargo models are first assembled in Germany and then taken apart for shipment here. They do this to avoid the import taxes on German trucks.

The reason you won't see any new VW vans at the dealer is because they are not yet available here. VW has plans to build a new long wheel based camper here based on the T5 for 2007. They are still talking about bringing in short wheel based T5s and calling them Microbus.

You will see used EuroVans at dealers here. I was picked up at the airport in a EuroVan by a salesman at Countryside VW in St. Paul, when I flew up there to buy my EuroVan Weekender. Their 1999 EuroVan had well over 200K on it, and had been using it since new as their shuttle. Another dealer here was recently using a 93 EuroVan as their parts runner.
