Thats not exactly true as I understand it. The VW fix is an "active" monitoring fix while the capacitor fix is more of a passive fix. I am no electrician...but from what I have been told, the capacitor fix if not as effective as the VW fix.

Others feel free to dispute as you see fit...

It's the dealer solution to an oscillation condition in the ECU monitoring the air flow meter. It's basically a short cable with a male connector on one end and a female on the other that goes between the AFM and the harness that plugs into it. It essentially contains a capacitor that "smoothes out" the AFM signal to the ECU. The VW-made harness is the expensive solution. The cheap solution is to open your AFM and just solder a capacitor across the appropriate terminals.
