Hi, Volks! The 6th annual Syncro de Mayo is May 5th - 7/8th.

The event web page is now up and you can register and pay on-line this year.

http://www.syncro.org/SdM_events.html

We are striving to make the event the best it can be. We already have half-a-dozen volunteers working on stuff, and that number will triple by the time of the event. The event focuses on syncros, but all VW vans and busses are welcome.

We limit attendance to 75 vans. Pre-registration is advised if you want to camp and feat at the BBQ steak/chicken dinner.

Here are a few comments from last year's attendees:

>This is my third S de Mayo and every year the event just gets better >and better. This year's "Syncro University" with driving >instruction from the experts was really great training for us all, >whatever level of experience each of us have, and the all the trail >rides, excursions..and even massages to sooth tired bodies....lots of >cold Spaten beer and and a bountiful pot luck feast... all >contributed to make the weekend just great. > >But best of all is the opportunity to hang out with all the great >people...this year from all over the world....to renew old >friendships and make new ones...and drive, test, and talk Vanagon and >Syncro talk nonstop for the entire weekend.....not possible anywhere >else. > >I was just happy as a "pig in slop" the whole time.... > >Thanks to all for the contributions everyone made..... from the >volunteers who made it happen....to everyone who came from near and >far to take part.

>I want to thank all of you for getting me out there, and all of you again >for hosting me while there, with rides (Tom-Adam/Eric/John) and for feeding >me (Joe/Steve and the BBQ Kings) Special thanks to John W. for handing over >the keys to SyncroMog for a few runs, wheeeee! It was an absolute pleasure >to put faces to names/emails after many many years. Haven't had so much fun >in ages, my sides ached from Tom L's lewd and suggestive description of how >his decoupler works to a certain lady brave enough to be nearby. Ditto for >his newest product, the straight shaft! The whole event was done >brilliantly, thanks Steve!! Wish I could have brought my son, that was the >first thing he said when I described the water balloons and kids events. >And, ahem, thanks to Spaten/Peter B. for arranging the "first aid post for >parched easterners". Not sure about the Spaten wagon with it's random acts >of steering on the way down to SdeM, but crashing a loaded beer truck was >never in the plans. In all I had a fantastic time, what an amazing event.

>The event was amazing. So many names from the lists now >have faces to go with them. The technical exchange of >knowledge was excellent. I wish I had a tape recorder to get it all >down permanently. There were 2.5liter Subarus, 5 cylinder >Audis, a TDI, quite a few 2.2 liter Subarus and of course many >factory waterboxers pushing the Vans around the hills. Subarus >sounded amazing with a very nice growl that almost rivals that of >Marks VR6. I was most surprised by the Subies. Watching them >on the hills, they had an amazing powerband, and could pull >from very low rpms. From talking to people with the Subaru >conversions, they do great in the higher revs as well. > >One of the highlights for me was the Syncro University classes. I >have no, make that absolutely NO, off roading experience. The >instructors Tom Lengyel and John Wessels did an outstanding >job explaining and demonstrating each task (Thank you for >taking the time). We were then walked through each one.

>The barbecue dinner was amazing. There was enough food >there to feed a whole army and then some. Tri tip beef, chicken >and sausage all flamed to perfection, was surrounded by dishes >brought by each of the 50 or so participants. It was a feast by any >measure and after dinner we were treated to presentations by >Chris Torlasco of his trip down through South America, video of >the days events, Pierre from France had some cool Thing >pictures
