Craigslist is originated in San Francisco and is still based there. Fans from other areas have requested and been granted their own site specific versions. Nothing is as busy as the SF site. All are run from Cole Valley District of SF. BTW, there is a real Craig - Craig Newmark. He owns and runs the Craigslist. Many regular users have communicated with him at one time or another. There is even a forum for questions directed to him personally.
