I don't know how large a hose you're trying to clamp, but you'll want to upsize the one shown, perhaps using a C-clamp or carpenter's "pony" clamp, and larger diameter wood dowels.

As always, you'll want to be gentle with any such clamp, to avoid splitting or otherwise damaging the hose.
