Sounds like my 84 Westy! For me it occurred when I was pushing the van on the highway after 3-4 hours of 65-70 mph at altitude. If I stopped it would not happen again when I started up but would continue off & on. Felt like "bad gas", but evidently was not. Now I don't push the van over 65 mph & the problem rarely occurs, not to mention the much better gas mileage. I have thought this was the "vanagon syndrome" happening, but was told this is not typical in early wbxers, only later ones. WTF.
