Sounds like you are getting there. I concur with John that those pushrods need to be properly seated. I used a screwdriver and lifted each one into position at its base just to make sure. Also, when I tried the "touch then 2 turns" initial adjustment method, my valves were too tight. I took Boston Bob's advice and set the lash at 0 for a while, and then when I did my final adjustment, I made contact and added 1 turn, not 2. That was 19,000 miles back and still running strong.
Regarding the rough running, I made the mistake, initially, of mixing up the plug wires on the right (passenger) side. It's easy to do, because the way they hook up is counterintuitive, i.e. they need to physically cross. On one occasion, I also forgot to plug in the AFM, and that won't do either.
