I was talking (actually talking as on the phone, remember that contraption?) to a fellow Lister this morning. The subject of The Aviator came up and I recalled this great site regarding a replica of the Hughes H1. How is this van related? Well, since we are always working on our vans in one way or another, I thought it would be instructive to see what is possible for the human hand to create once it has paid its dues developing a skill. An H1 used to be tucked away in the National Air and Space Museum in DC. Whenever I saw it, its level of craftsmanship stopped me in my tracks and, other than a gorgeous Lycoming flat six, nothing there could even smell it.

George
