Subject: Adventurewagen molds - update 2/24

Greetings all,

Just a note to update the folks who are interested in the fate of the Adventurewagen molds.....

Not much has happened, since the owner of the glass shop has still been gone. Unable to get hold of him for quite a while, I finally made another trip to the glass shop last thursday. The owner wasn't there and the office was all locked up, but I found an employee working in the shop who said that the owner was still out of town dealing with his wife's surgery, and he would likely be back sometime this week...

I called the shop again today, and got someone who said that the wife's surgery didn't go as well as hoped and it's unlikely the owner will be back for at least a couple more weeks.

The bad news (for me) about that is that with the owner gone, there's no one to operate a forklift. The person I talked to on the phone today asked me "so what's it worth to you for me to come in on a weekend and operate forklift?" I told him I'd think about that and when I could arrange a day I might take him up on it....

Hopefully the owner comes back soon, he sounded quite willing to operate the forklift for free to get the molds out of there.

While I was there last week, I took a few more photos and poked at the molds with a tape measure some more. I added the photos and dimensions to the "save the molds" webpage that's here: <http://www.weirdstuffwemake.com/weird/stuff/automotive/vanagon/save_the_AW_molds.html>

Sorry the photo quality sucks. I wasn't paying attention and had the camera set wrong so all the photos were pretty badly overexposed. I managed to "fix" then enough to be viewable but the detail is crap...

It looks to me like there's probably TWO sets of Vanagon AW molds plus the Ford ones.

Thanks to the folks who donated money to help cover the moving costs. There's still uncertainty about how to move the molds and where they are going, but if I don't have to rent a truck and all that stuff, then I will make sure that the folks who made donations get their money back.

So that's where it's at right now. More news as it develops...

Steve
