I dug out some insurance crash test results I posted to the List years ago. There are pictures of a Vanagon head-on with a Volvo 245. See www.251.org/volvocrash.html

Perhaps surprisingly, our vans do well in the real world, at least in a crash with a car. I can only imagine how Vanagons would fare crashing into another heavy, high-wheelbase vehicle, (SUV) with a long hood and airbags.
