an extremely robust method here is to keep the points and use them to
trigger an aftermarket unit, my favorites being the msd6a, or a mallory
hyfire unit. it's easy to design a system to convert back to points if the
electronic module fails: no more than untwisting and then twisting a few
wires, or as easy as flipping a 4 pole, double throw switch.
