Paul,

If the tags are 6 months or more out of date, the vehicle can be impounded. I would check with your local DMV office to find out the status of your van. Sacramento has a habit of not sending or following up with paperwork.

If it were me, I would have the smog test done and bring a copy of the smog test results to the DMV when I went to get the status. Since the BAR-90 machines came in, the results are automatically uploaded to Sacramento anyway, but I'd bring in a "paper" copy just to be sure.

One good thing about being in North Carolina is no smog checks for the vans I have. They are still smog legal and all, but I don't have to dump a bunch of money into them all at once to keep them that way. It cost me over $800 to get the Syncro up to Arizona standards when I was there - ouch!

Don in Reidsville, NC 1987 Vanagon GL Syncro (Suzie) - Sale Pending! 1988 Vanagon GL (Sylvia) Why do they call it a fixed income, when mine is always broke?
