Paul,

If you're a member of AAA, I'd start with them. If not, call the local DMV office & explain. Hopefully, you kept copies of your on- line communications.

Driving while unregistered is a risk (someone else can address how much of a risk) but it might help if you have those copies in the car to demonstrate that you are taking care of business if you do get pulled over.

It's (obviously) important that you not let it go too long without taking action. Maybe it's just a normal delay, but if it fell through some crack, you're still responsible. Be sure to keep notes of phone or over-the-counter conversations with the name(s) of anyone you talk to.
