Subject: which car to buy? (little vanagon content)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii

Hi guys, My girlfiend and I are probably going to be commuting to two different places come this fall, and so we need to buy a car for her to drive. (I already have my '84 vanagon). We're looking for something that hopefully gets decent gas mileage. Our biggest concern, though, is that we'd be able to do the work on it ourselves (mostly, at least). One car I've heard good things about is the Mercedes 240d. Good mileage, and pretty simple, I've heard. Anybody have any suggestions? I'd love to look at an older TDI, but I have a feeling they'd be more complicated. Does anybody have any suggestions? The vanagon has been within our grasp. Price is also very much a factor. I got my '84 vanagon, in very good condition, for $1300 a year and a half ago. I think this was a pretty good deal, and am willing to look around a while to try to do as well again. (We're out of the country until May, and then would probably want to have the car bySeptember).

Thanks for any suggestions! Wes
