Damon,

I lived for thirty years in Alaska. Loved every minute. Then I went to Montana, Wyoming, Coloradao, and then New Mexico.

New Mexico is the only other place I'd rather be than Alaska. And it was the northern part of the state that got me. I loved it. Santa Fe north. Espanola, Taos, and lots of little tiny hole-in-the-wall out-of-the-way places. You have to drive the back roads to find them. There you find all kinds of color, charm, character........and characters. Driving around in northen NM is a real adventure. Never know what you might run into, especially on some of the dirt roads. Bears, coyotes, mule deer, road runners, rattlesnakes, interesting birds, and fascinating plants. Lots of historical sites, many that don't often get visited. In Espanola there is a church that was built in the mid-1500's- the area being one of the oldest Spanish occupied areas in the country. And though I didn't fish there, a really big surprise for me was when a local caught a 25 pound Silver (Coho) Salmon in a lake just out from Espanola up in the mountains to the East. And a short time later someone caught a 26 inch Rainbow Trout in the same lake. Alaska fish both....... and in New Mexico, yet!!!!

Here's a thumbs up from me for New Mexico!!!

Regards,

John Rodgers, Chelsea, AL
