You're right as far as I am concerned.  Some guys will use two studs then
pry, twist, say a Novena or two and force two capscrews (bolts) into submission.
Sometimes the flange hole is not exactly lined up with the tapped hole in the
head, the screw is started cocked and we all know the outcome.  I prefer to
install studs then massage the header and its flanges until it is an easy, flat
fit on both heads.  No fuss, no muss, no leaking exhaust ports and, above all
else, no stripped threads.
