Yes, that's what happens when all of the people controlling the economy are using growth as their model for generating wealth and using wealth as the ultimate goal for society. Try convincing everyone in this country, or more particularly, those in power, that there are things more important than wealth . . . at least wealth as defined in monetary terms. Our country is a long way from understanding value in terms of anything other than money, for instance, quality of life, being good global citizens, having a healthy and bountiful ecosystem within which to live. I think that those of us that own Vanagons probably have a head start in this area. For me, the Vanagon represents a way of being together with my family in remote locations playing music, relaxing, and enjoying the environment. I've been known to take off time from work without pay to be able to go camping in my van with my family. A number of the people I work with don't understand this at all. It's sad really . . .
