I'm dying here! This 85 1.9 water pump is kicking my &^%$#@@$%%.! I down loaded a popular 1.9 waterpump changing instruction from the list, and I can now b sure that, that vanagon had no a/c or power steering.Triple the labor rate here.In addition to all the printed stuff, I found out my water crossover pipes have a 6mm hex bolt(I'm off to sears for still more tools). Not a 12 or 13 mm wrench bolt.Had to remove the a/c compressor.Had to cut off the rotton old hoses. Those spring clamps have decided not to come off for me.I had to choose between removing the altenater and power steering bracket,or the distributer to get to a water pump bolt !?Hope that distributor will reinstall properly.Well thanks for letting me ventilate. This is where I am at in the proceedure.I hope to get the pump off in the dark tonight, and call it half done. Can any one tell me if I can reuse that plastic o-ring on the upper water crossover pipe?Cant find a new one anywhere , or any vendor who knows what I'm talking about.I guess I'll have to remove the oil filler tube to get the lower crossover pipe off the studs(tomorrow). It may b a toss up as to which is worse-Total front end rebuild or water pump replacement w/air and powersteering in a 1.9.Naaaaaa, the front end rebuild is tuffer. The waterpump is just a frustrating never ending adventure.Bye, Roger
