A LWB recumbent and not a roof rack? Unless it folds, or you want it sticking sky high in the back (not a good idea), try folding down your back seat.

That has to be one of the least practical bikes not to ride.

Or just get a SWB 'bent and use a standard rack (hmmm... like that is a cost effective option!). Personally, i kinda like the shorter wheelbase, anyway. Not that it helps you with your problem...
