Subject: FS 82 westy (maybe)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"

The sad news: Sadly we are considering selling our 82 aircooled westy. It has served us well and has never (knock on wood) left us stranded unless we wanted to be. This machine has been a real asset over the years and I will remember our time with it fondly.

The good news: We will only sell if we get the opportunity to purchase an 85 westy a friend of ours is considering selling. It needs some work but will be a good candidate for an engine conversion.

The question: How much is a fair price to ask for our 82? The good: 30k on rebuilt engine, all suspension from ball joints to shocks including steering arm boots, etc. etc. ad infinitum, motor mounts, fuel line, complete front brakes, rear pads, and a list too long for here was replaced last year (about $5k worth), top repainted last year, new SS muffler, VW factory alloy's, fair original paint (asuan brown, it grows on you), captain chair seats upgrade, 15k on Yokohama van tires, and all camping gear is in working order. The not so good: the wallpaper is pealing in the back, there is a dent in the sliding door where PPO cut short, a few rust blisters around side windows it hasn't cracked the paint yet but..., and it's 23 years old.

So what is a fair price to ask?

Thanks, David Higginbotham Silk Hope, NC 82 Westfalia
