Subject: Bad ECU??
Content-Type: text/plain

Perhaps someone can help out a friend this problem with his Vanagon (87 standard shift Wolfburg Westfalia Weekender)

The following is basically his e-mail to me on the subject :

First time the problem started was at a stop, let out the clutch up in first and the van stalled, van the does not start. Check spark, none. Checked coil, OK. Towed home, check Hall sender, checks out OK.

Figure it must be the ECU, so I took the ECU to a VW specialist in Santa Cruz, they hook up the ECU to a shop van and the shop van runs fine.

Reinstall in (my) van and the van now works - for about 2 weeks. Again let up the clutch at a stop and it stalls and no spark again. Did the ecu reset when tried in another van? Did something is the system overheating with the longer drive? Bad ignition switch?

Any help, ideas appreciated. Van is in Anacortes, WA, in case you are near by with a know good ECU for a "swap test"

Thanks John
