i'm no subaru expert but i can say this when i lived out in montana there
was a guy that made most of his living doing subaru swaps in bays and
vanagons.  this is way before they became popular, back in about 1995.
anyhow i think he was using the 1.8, the ones he used were models
with carbs.  the 84 vanagon that i bought my spare 1.9 from received one
of these conversions.
