The "Vanagon syndrome" is not limited to the Vanagon Digifant. The Digifant 2 Golf-Jetta from 1988 to 1992 has the same problem.

Before I switched my fuel injection over to Motronic ('95 Golf engine) I had the Digifant 2 fuel injection which is similar to Vanagon Digifant.

I had the bucking and stalling condition all the way from Kansas to the east coast and back to the NW.

It was a bad AFM . I got the capacitor harness from a 16 valve Jetta and another good used AFM. I never had another problem for 4 years until my plug wires went bad and I thought it was the AFM. SO I upgraded my engine to Motronic when I really did'nt have to, but Motronic run the engine with more power so it was worth it.

I don't know of any Digijet AFM problem cases.

Having bad spark plug wires can cause similar bucking, cutting out and stalling symptoms.

If you have carbon fiber wires these are prone to crack internally and leak. That's what I dioscovered I had wrong after I switched to Motronic. The stalling did'nt go away until I replaced the plug wires with new copper core.
