Methyl alcohol burns slow and cool and I'd expect ethyl to do the same. In straight methanol applications the richness needs to be increased a LOT. Some racing type 1 engines using methanol don't even have cooling fans (midgets). It's been years, but it also seems like the need to light it off at 45-50 ° before TDC, maybe earlier. An air cooled L-Jetronic engine at 8k feet is going to be somewhat rich anyway. It seems like a dose of alcohol might be just the ticket. Al Brase
