The amount of backspace is the number that you need; it should be close to the stock backspacing (around 121mm). Also, I found that the actual wheel width is almost an inch more than the stated wheel width.

So for a 14"x 5.5"w ET39 steel wheel the backspacing is 121 mm - 164mm wide with an offset of 39mm ((164/2)+39)

Your 15" x 7"w ET45 wheel should measure around 200mm across the rim. The amount of backspacing should be 145mm ((200/2)+45). Measure it to find out the exact numbers.

You would need a 24mm (.945") spacer (145-121) to put the inside of your 15" wheel in the same position as a stock steel wheel. Since you are using a 15" wheel, you might be able to go with less, but tire clearance also needs to be factored in.

Good luck,

Tj

Does all this mean that I can't run these Audi A4 wheels on my 85 2WD GL? With Spacers?
