VW never had the "lights on" buzzer before the 90's

They must have figured they were covered by the headlights

[ but not the parking lights ] turning off if you turned the engine

off. I have managed to leave the [ parking] lights on accidently

before and still managed to start the car after 8 hours at work.

[ oops]

There are afternarket lights-on-buzzers kits available.

never tried them myself
