The fuel economy is also terrible and the fuel injection likes to vapor lock and the power steering racks leak and the engine mounts constantly collapse and the AC never holds a charge etc. Any Audi 100 is a much better deal.

Don,

Be careful. The eletronic automatic transmissions in the early Passats had problems. Very expensive problems...

Cheers,

My son is looking for a reliable economical car to drive around town and , twice a month, to drive 400 miles across the prairie and up into the rockies. ( he's a Biathlete). I have a line on a 91 Passat auto, 270,000 km, just had the timing belt done as well as numerous other bits of recent work. Anyone have any experience with these cars? Have any advice to give? TIA Don
